Back to the future. Too early? Not if you've watched the last seasons. The Cavs needed to address the center issue and Shaq was the best available option IMO. But is it going to work this year and if not, how much more does Shaq have in the tank? I hope we seriously look at the future if we want to keep LBJ in Cleveland and bring in DWade who's been rumored to leave Miami next year. DWade would be that automatic championship addition that we're soo lacking: another guy that can takeover. That's what all the other contenders have that we're missing. And who better to do it than DWade? Isn't he the reigning scoring champ? He looks like he just might do it again. Also, LBJ and DWade are about the same age so they could play together throughout the years and they're very good friends already: automatic chemistry off the court wich should bring chemistry on the court. Dwade afraid of the cold? He's from Chicago! Putting him and LeBron on the same team would make everybody happy, ring, ring, rings.... Especially LBJ, Dwade who are very good friens, their teamates, management and the fans, I would say an automatic contender. If you have to loose Shaq in the process, well... Is his huge contract paying dividends? Better get Dwade next year and bring in a younger or cheaper center (Cheaper), it worked for the Bulls! Actually, the best scenario is that Shaq and LeBron would take a pay cut to make way for the DWade acquisition. Their contracts expire next year and DWade could be willing to take a cut too. After Shaq's departure, they could increase their salaries again and mold a younger and cheaper center after getting Shaq at least 2 last rings! I want them to win this year but I just don't see it happening if they continue to play this way or rather if the same weaknesses continue to show up! The truth can hurt or pave the way for improvement so I hope this will enlighten even the most stubborn fan.

With all the cap holds we'll have, (Shaq being 21 million), we won't be able to sign Dwade.  Plus i anticipate trading Z and picking up additional salaries which would shrink cap room.

I know about the cap restrictions etc... But what happened to Shaq's one year 20 million contract? What happens next year? Can't we get DWade, LBJ and Shaq to work out something? And of course, still get that young or cheap center that could learn from Shaq and Z. I hope the numbers master Golfer could help.

Haha not many teams in nba history have had THE two best players in the game at the same time. And you better not say pippen and jordan.

Even if this did somehow happen- you'd have Shaq with a $20 mil (at least) contract, Lebron with a $17(ish) mil contract, and Wade with a $15(ish) million contract. That adds up to $52 million, which is around the projected cap. That's not even counting any other salaries. We'd be up near $90 million total after that (net $110 million because of luxury tax). I don't think that's something Gilbert would do.

That's given the fact that we would want that sort of thing, and that it would happen.

In reality though, there's no way we would want Shaq for another year. I didn't want him for this year. He's just getting too old IMO. Then there's the fact that Miami could offer D-Wade more money than us. And we all know, the deciding factor is the almighty dollar.

So on a scale of 1-10 of happening, I'd say it's a 1 or a 2.

Finally, a name change; it's about time. Not that I don't like Anderson.

We have good players but the coaching is bad. The team plays too slow to give the other team enough time to build on defense. And bottom line is we are not playing defense anymore. All the big teams we compare ourselves to, took care of business at home and on the road. That game against boston was ours. But we lost it because the coaching staff got punked by the celtics when they came back and started playing faster. They are not better than us. But their coach was calmer and smarter. Also their players were more determinated to get a victory.

I will say it again and again and again: Only on man (LBJ) cannot do it all by himself. When James more than 30 points in a game or a TRIPLE DOUBLE in game, I don't see why we should lose that game. O yeah I see: it's because his teamates are just standing around watching him do everything like they are part of the croud. LBJ cannot play against 5 people. Come on now! Mike Brown needs to get this team play little faster and get back to defense like we did in the past years. Our defens got very weak. Players used to be scared of our defense but now, anybody thinks he can just drive to our basket. I don't care it's only 2 games but this is not the Cavs and this not how things will work...."jsCall();" id="jsProxy" type="hidden" />

REMEMBER, The Cavaliers will have 230 million dollars in the year 2010 so they can resign Lebron and other superstars and that is the fact!!!

Whether the Cavs are willing to spend the money is not the question.  I think they will spend whatever it takes.  The problem is the salary cap.  If my calculations are correct, LeBron and DWade can both sign for up to $17,436,803 next summer.  They are eligible for 30% of the salary cap or a 10.5% raise over their previous salary, whichever is higher.  For the 10.5% raise, they need to resign with their current team.  We can re-sign LeBron no problem, but bringing in DWade would require a sign and trade, in which we'd have to send enough salary to Miami so that 125% of that amount is $17,436,803, using the trade exception to the cap, which is $13,949,442.  Looking at our roster and their salaries, I don't see what players we could 1) afford to lose, and that 2) Miami would want.

Given the above numbers, I seriously doubt Lebron is going anywhere else.  When LeBron signed his extension, he did it to maximize his next contract.  Unfortunately for him, the cap has dropped (the cap would have to be at least $58,122,677 for his maximum salary to be determined by 30% of the cap, as opposed to 110.5% of previous salary) and now his maximum salary is determined by the % increase of the previous year.  That increase is 10.5% with the Cavs and 8% with anyone else.  Not to mention the fact that we are the only team that doesn't have to add significantly more talent around him.  If LeBron signed with the Nets, they wouldn't have cap space to be anything better than mediocre and I doubt LeBron wants to wait to rebuild, when he can be a contender here.
